What Do You Really Love Most?

Image
What are you seeking? I don’t mean in the abstract philosophical sense, as in “I’m a seeker of truth” or “I’m just looking for happiness.” I hope you seek the former and I know you seek the latter. No, I’m asking down here, on the runway, where you actually do things. What are you really seeking? There are other ways to phrase the question:What do you really want?
What are you dreaming about having?
What’s fueling your hope for the future?
What’s capturing your attention most?
What are you focusing your reading on?
What are you searching the internet for?
What are you spending your time and money on?
What are you making plans to pursue?Or we could ask it negatively: What desired person or thing is fueling your depression and cynicism, because as much as you want him or her or it, they seem unattainable? What are you seeking? Your answers will tell you what you love.Love Always SeeksIt is the very nature of love to seek the beloved, whether our beloved is a human lover (Song of Solomon 7:10) or…

Feature request - writing in margins

Hi there! I recognise that this is technically challenging to pull off, which is why no e-reader that I know of has been able to implement it. (Which would make Logos app industry leading!)When I read, one way I process what I'm reading and make it easier to return to later is by writing short notes to myself in the margins. This would be so good to be able to do in Logos. Here's one way I can think of to implement it:Essentially add a column to the left margin (single column view) or outside margins (2 column view). Make width of main text column slightly narrower to fit it in. (In short the view becomes 2 columns or 4 columns, with an invisible skinny margin column per column of main text.Margin notes are anchored to a word in the main text. They display their content in the margin starting in line with their anchored word. You could put a character limit on marginal comments, e.g. 140 chars. The margin note continues down as far as needed, stopping either: (A) when it runs out …

Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma (BGCO) Executive Director-Treasurer Anthony Jordan announced Sept. 20 that Walter Wilson, pastor of Lawton, Friendship, has been named BGCO African American Ministry Consultant.“Dr. Wilson is a great pastor and an accomplished leader,” Jordan said. “I believe that Walter will help Oklahoma Baptists expand our reach across the state. Our heart’s desire is to grow the number of African American churches in Oklahoma and to help them become even more engaged in the BGCO.”Wilson, who will be working in a part-time capacity, will be connected to the BGCO Mobilization Team and will be focused on building relationships with African American churches in the BGCO, providing avenues for ministry enrichment, representing the BGCO at various events, as well as developing an African American Advisory Board for the Robert Haskins School of Christian Ministry.Wilson has previously served on the BGCO board of directors, and in 2016, he was elected president of th…

Slow cursor in Notes

Image
Michel Pauw| Forum Activity |Posted: Today 2:54 PM I'm translating a Greek resource using a note file, so I can work within the same interface with source text, translation pane, dictionary, commentary, etc.Obviously the note file gets bigger and bigger. After a 1000 words or so in a single note, the cursor has become really slow. While I'm typing with 400+ keystrokes per minute, my cursor in the note follows with a slow 3 characters per second. At the end of my typing a sentence I have to wait a while for the cursor to finish the sentence.Interestingly, when I start a new note, the cursor follows as normal, until the note gets bigger again, where it starts becoming slow again. No problems with my computer specs:- i7-6700HQ CPU @ 2.60 GHz

Newest Verbum/Logos Android app that works with Android 4.0.4?

Yes, I know, it's an Android dinosaur! And I know that Faithlife doesn't support 4.0.4.  Still...I now have an eInk device that runs Android 4.0.4 - but there should be a 4.4 upgrade for it fairly soon, or so we are told. In the meantime - what is the newest version of the Verbum/Logos app that works with 4.0.4? I have Logos 4.3.9 now on that device. Just checking to see if a newer version of the app would work. Thanks!

Live Confident in God’s Sovereign Power

Image
The immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe . . . (Ephesians 1:19)The omnipotence of God means eternal, unshakable refuge in the everlasting glory of God no matter what happens on this earth. And that confidence is the source and power of radical obedience to the call of God.Is there anything more freeing, more thrilling, or more strengthening than the truth that God Almighty is your refuge — all day, every day in all the ordinary and extraordinary experiences of life?If we believed this, if we really let this truth of God’s omnipotence get hold of us, what a difference it would make in our personal lives and in our ministries! How humble and powerful we would become for the saving purposes of God!The omnipotence of God means refuge for the people of God. And when you really believe that your refuge is the omnipotence of God Almighty, there is a joy and a freedom and a power that spills over in a life of radical obedience to Jesus Christ. The omnipotence of God means …

A Little Book on the Christian Life: New Styles Now Available

Image
For centuries, Christians of all ages have turned to John Calvin’s A Little Book on the Christian Life to help them on their journey as they follow Christ. This book is one of the great classics of the Christian faith, calling believers to pursue holiness and endure suffering as they rest in Christ alone. This classic work, newly translated by Burk Parsons and Aaron Denlinger, is now available in two beautiful gift editions and one new cover style. Designed to be shared, these editions are for every Christian to pick up, read, and apply. Bulk discounts are available."I have often thought, ‘I would love to retranslate for the twenty-first century the life-shaping material in Calvin’s Institutes book 3, chapters 6–10,’ and I’ve done nothing! But now, Burk Parsons and Aaron Denlinger have done the job for us all. We owe them a big thank you, because every Christian needs to have a working knowledge of this little book."—Sinclair Ferguson

Image: iStock/license purchase required. ASHEVILLE, N.C. (BP) -- The Darwinian concept of natural selection seems pretty straightforward: The most fit survive and pass their genes on to their offspring, while unfit organisms die off. But new research, published in the Annual Review of Ecology, Evolution and Systematics, shows survival is a lot more complicated, and natural selection is neither clear-cut nor provable. The researchers, who study natural selection as it relates to infectious diseases, explained the theory does not account for environmental changes. For example, some weeds in a vacant lot may carry a gene variat…

The original story can be found at http://ift.tt/2fnnRrn FIRST-PERSON: Responding to criticismGRAPEVINE, Texas (BP) -- In life, there are two things we can't avoid: death and taxes. Let's add criticism as another unavoidable part of life.Criticism can come from our all sorts of people -- our spouse, our boss, a friend or enemy, a church member or a complete stranger. When someone tells us of our perceived faults or mistakes, we don't always respond well, especially if it hits us when we least expect it.Although, we can't control how criticism comes our way, we can control how we respond to it in a healthy way and not lay down in defeat, doubt or discouragement. Here is a threefold strategy that will help us know how to respond to criticism.Test itThere are times we'll be convicted by the Holy Spirit knowing that we're in the wro…

Natural Disaster Social Media Etiquette

Image
Natural/national disasters bring out the best in people, but also, sometimes, they expose flaws in the way we’ve structured our society, such as over-development, insufficient infrastructure maintenance, and so on.Sometimes, they also show us how bad we are at understanding and using social media.Case in point: Using a disaster-specific hashtag (i.e. #Harvey, #Irma, etc.) on Twitter when you aren’t actually trying to communicate helpful information about that disaster.ProPublica reporter Jessica Huseman made this point pretty clear back in August:Quit using the dedicated hashtags to say "pray for Houston!" Or "wow look at this!" Bc it is *not helpful* and is actually infuriating— Jessica Huseman (@JessicaHuseman) August 27, 2017Sadly, many Christians jumped all over her for “slandering” the importance of prayer. Give me a break, guys. Jesus and Paul both spent considerable amounts of time talking about how and when to pray in the Bible. In fact, Jesus actually said…
